 Egg-less Hush Puppies




  • Oil For frying
  • 3/4 cup Flour
  • 3/4 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder 
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce 
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Cold and cut into small cubes
Instructions
Preheat 4 inches of oil in a medium size pot to 365 degrees.

In a bowl add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, onion powder, paprika, and pepper. Add the applesauce and milk. Mix until combined. Stir in cubed butter.

Drop the batter by spoonfuls in the hot oil. Let cook until they are golden brown -3 minutes. Remove with a metal strainer on a paper toweled lined plate.
